World Wide Weather – WWW

This is a weather overview, based on the data that anyone can retreive on www.milk-weather.org/MILK-home-meteorologist.htm

In Europe a very structurized low pressure area is currently located over the baltic states. W of it there is an extensive area without clouds, a high pressure area that will bring cooler air (finally) to central Europe. SW of the Iberean Peninsula there is a very de-organized low pressure area.

Currently N Germany is covered in showers, but there is no lightning activity (except for a single lightning bolt that was registered). The S is meanwhile covered in rain from one of the fronts of the baltic low. The shower that is the strongest and also caused the one flash of lightning is currently located ESE of Hannover. The showers are movin straight from W to E. In Austria it is currently raining N of the Alps and in Tyrol, although the highest intesnisites are reached in Upper Austria and Salzburg. The radar clearly shows that the rain comes from non-convective sheet clouds.

Lightning activity in Europe is very low. There have only been 2 lightnings that were registered within the last two hours.

The current temperatures in the USA span from -17°C at the great lakes to 24°C in Florida. It is, though, generally warmest in the SW and coolest in the NE, although the cold polar air is now moving away again. Except for the pacific coast all of Canada is in the negatives as well. Cuba is currently between 24 and 28°C warm.

In South America it is currently very warm. Brazil is on average, temperatures up to 28°C, but in central Argentina temperatures are reaching 37°C.  On the other side of the Andes the temperature is often times below 20°C in Chile. At the southernmost weather station of south America the temperature is currently5°C.

Japan currently stretches from temperatures around -5°C in the N to around 4°C in the SE. Currently it is especiall cold in Mongolia and E Siberia. In Mongolia the current lowest temperature is -33°C, in E Siberia even -53°C.

Unfortunately MILK cannot acces much of the data of SE Asia. Temperatures there are currently between 12°C in the N and 29°C on isolated islands.

Australia is of course very warm currently, but surprisingly cool. While one or two weeks ago temperatures exceeded 40°C once again, now the hightest currently measured value is 34°C.

In Africa many countries do not give access to their weather network, ot do ot even have a weather station network. Temperatures in the far N of Africa are currently under 10°C in vast regions.

Around the poar ice cap it is surprisingly warm currently. Lowest temperatures, as already mentioned, are currently registered in E Siberia. But it is under -30°C cold in most of the regions, including N Scandinavia.

At the antarctic coast, temperatures between -7 and +8°C are currently being measured. Very warm.

There is “a lot of weather” going on in Europe currently. In central Germany moderate snow is being reported. Around it, mostly towards the E and SE, vast areas are covered with rain. In Scandinavia and Russia it is snowing over wide areas. In pretty much the rest of europe it is hazy or foggy.

The wind is currently strongest in N Germany, stronger than in any other area of Europe. The wind there is blowing from the W, right into a low pressure system over the Baltic states.

Precipitation was reported throughout central Europe, and in the Atlantic, where the largest ammounts fell.

Temperatures in Europe currently span from -32°C in N Scandinavia to 16°C in Greece. Most of Europe is just around the freezing point.
